Bell Canadian Swimming Trials

Posted by Parkland Pirates Aquatic Club on Apr 14 2022 at 11:08AM PDT

Bell Canadian Swimming Trials were held in Victoria, BC. Where Dakota Dotzlaf finished 8th the 100 Backstroke, in the 18 & Under age group.  Finishing 21st over all—in Canadas strongest women’s event. The meet was exciting as Dakota raced various Olympians in her heats—like Canadian Record Holder Kylie Masse In addition to the 100 backstroke Dakota raced the 50 and 200 backstroke. Although she didn’t make it back to finals, Dakota swum a life time best in the her 200 backstroke, while lowering 2 team records. The experience of attending the weeklong Trials and racing the nations “Big Dogs” will help prepare her for Trials next year, with an eye on Olympic Trials in 2024.  Trials is an important meet for anyone wanting to make any Canadian Team, as a handful of swimmers from the meet were selected to represent Canada at the upcoming FINA World Championships in Budapest, Junior Pan Pacific Championships (Pan-Pac’s) in Hawaii,  FINA World Open Water Championships, Junior Open Water Championships; as well as nominated for the Commonwealth Games.Dakota’s presence & performance at the meet will hopefully fuel the dream of many other Pirates. A couple of years ago, before COVID—when she was 12, Dakota was not ranked #1 in Canada in her age group, she didn’t have a Western cut yet, etc….However, with work and persistence she has accomplished a lot to get herself to this point.
